The Angels

Effective period / Period of releases: 1986

Members: Marilyn Nokwe, Tu Nokwe, Jean Madubane, Nonhlanhla Dlomo

South African group The Angels was comprised of Marilyn Nokwe, Nonhlanhla Dlomo and Jean Madubane. They also sang back up on albums of 80's greats like Steve Kekana, Brenda Fassie, Stimela and more.

The original trio, known as the Black Angels, was comprised of sisters Tu and Marilyn Nokwe as well Jean Madubane.

In July 1984 they were requested to back Sipho Mabuse at Durban’s Kings Park Stadium and impressed enough people that they were featured on Allen Kwela's next solo recording the same year and were soon signed to RPM under producer Mac Mathunjwa. Following several successful maxi singles, 1987 saw the release of their full album "Mr No Problem".

Lead vocalist Jean Madubane died in a car crash near Kroonstad on Sunday, 20 September 1987 while on tour with Stimela.
