Allama Iqbal

Real name: Muhammad Iqbal – Urdu: محمد اِقبال‎ – Farsi: اقبال لاهوری

Sir Muhammad Iqbal (1877-1938), widely known as Allama Iqbal, was an Indian poet, philosopher and politician, who wrote in Urdu and Persian, and who is widely regarded as having inspired the Pakistan Movement.
Best remembered in India for penning the patriotic song "Saare jahan se achha". In neighbouring Pakistan though, Iqbal has achieved more fame for a different reason – he is regarded as the spiritual father of Pakistan, because it was on the basis of a 1930 speech that the two-nation theory was formulated.
