DJ Freestyle

Real name: Colin Russell

Effective period / Period of releases: 2002 - 2007

DJ Freestyle is an Australian House music DJ, Producer & Mastering Engineer.

As a DJ, he headlined in clubs, bars and radio shows throughout the world. Before focusing most of his energy on music production, he built on his hip hop/turntablist background, working as an instructor for Technics and United DJ's Mixing Schools, teaching the art of scratching, mixing and production. In 2001, he placed 1st in the scratching division and 2nd in the beat juggling category of The Technics Ultimate DJ Showdown. He also won several mixing competitions in his home state in the 1990s.

DJ Freestyle established his production facility, Funkshun Produkshuns, in January 1999, and through his international releases, became the first DJ/Producer from the state of Queensland to impact the U.S. underground house music scene. His production accolades include a top-3 favourite producers mention by Mark Farina in BPM magazine (2005) and favourable record reviews in the magazines IDJ, MUZIK and DJ.

DJ Freestyle's influences come from his favourite styles of music: early 80's boogie, funk and disco on labels such as Prelude, Solar, Tabu, West End, SAM and Salsoul.
