The Ethos group was established at the ''George Enescu'' Conservatory from Iasi, Romania in 1974, operating there until 1978, when three of the core members, Cornel Cristei, Vasile Foica and Iosif Trendler, moved to Oradea. Completing the line-up with guitarists Șipoș Felix (also a graduate of the Iasi Conservatory) and Florian Chelu Madeva, the group resumed its activity in the city on Crișul Repede, ending up participating in the Sibiu Jazz Festival - 1981 and 1983. Also, Cristei is from Botoșani, Trendler from Arad, they being attracted to Oradea by Foica. Șipoș is from Brad and at that time he was a teacher at the "Popular Arts School" in Oradea. Florian Chelu Madeva, being from Oradea, worked in the Theater Orchestra, where Cristei also found a place.
