Real name: Elroy Newton

He was born April 24, 1942, as Elroy Newton in Baird, TX.

He grew up in Lubbock, TX and was involved in the music industry in promotions. At that time, he took the professional name of Johnny Travis. He was a member of the Country Music Association, was founder and producer of West Texas ''Roots'' Musical and author of ''American Citizen.'' He was a guitarist and song writer and wrote the words and music for ''Lucky Me I Live in Lubbock".

He died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001.
