Biography
Jill Forrest
Dr. Jill Forrest AM (d. 2023) became the first woman President of the Carillon Society of Australia in 1993. She was recognized by her country in 2010 as a Member of the Order of Australia “for service to medicine as an academic, researcher and educator, and to music as a composer and carillon recitalist.” The University of Sydney awarded her an Honorary Fellowship in 2014 for her extensive contributions to medical research in endocrinology, her teaching, and her work as its University Carillonist.
Dr. Forrest was appointed Honorary Carillonist at the University of Sydney in 1978, and was subsequently promoted to University Carillonist in 1993 until 2010. She performed, taught students, recorded professionally, and published, edited, arranged, and composed extensively. She also founded and donated a collection of carillon music. As Honorary Consultant to the Bathurst Council, she advised on the refurbishment of the Bathurst War Memorial Carillon in her hometown. Abroad, she represented Australia at international carillon festivals in Europe and the United States.
