He began classical drumming at the age of nine in Basel, Switzerland. After having received private lessons in New York City from Clarence Penn and Jochen Rueckert in 2005, he studied at the Jazz Institute Berlin with John Hollenbeck, Jim Black, Jeff Ballard, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Greg Cohen.
