Biography

Thomas Hürlimann
Thomas Hürlimann was born in Zug, Switzerland, in 1950. He attended grammar school at Einsiedeln Abbey School, studied philosophy in Zurich and at the FU Berlin and now lives back in his homeland. In addition to numerous plays, Hürlimann wrote the novels "Heimkehr", "Vierzig Rosen" and "Der große Kater" (filmed with Bruno Ganz), the novellas "Fräulein Stark" and "Das Gartenhaus" as well as the collection of stories "Die Tessinerin". His dramatic, narrative and essayistic work has earned him the Joseph Breitbach Prize, the Thomas Mann Prize and the Hugo Ball Prize, among others. In 2019, he was awarded the Gottfried Keller Prize. Hürlimann is a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts, the German Academy for Language and Poetry and the Academy of Arts, Berlin. His works have been translated into 21 languages. In summer 2022, S. FISCHER published his novel "Der Rote Diamant", which has been nominated for the Swiss Book Prize 2022.
