Jan Roelof van der Glas

Jan Roelof van der Glas was a Dutch composer, educator, conductor and sheet music publisher. Born Borgercompagnie (Veendam) September 26, 1879 – died Amersfoort February 27, 1972). He also used the alias: Jean Duverre.

Van der Glas was educated in military music at the 1e Regiment Infanterie of Assen, by that time conducted by bandmaster Friedrich H.E. Bicknese. From 1905 to 1911 he was the conductor at Heerenveens Muziekcorps. In 1911 Van der Glas was appointed bandmaster at 3e Regiment Infanterie of Bergen op Zoom. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Muziekvereniging NEO Rucphen he wrote one of his most famous compositions, "De Feestmars", which has been published on gramophone records several times.

As a result of severe cuts made to the military bands his Stafmuziek van het 3e Regiment Infanterie was phased out as well. Van der Glas was transferred to the of Amersfoort.

In 1939 Van der Glas retired and returned to Friesland. Again, he was appointed as the conductor of Heerenveens Muziekcorps.
