Real name: Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger

German catholic theologian, university professor (since 1958) and cardinal (since 1977). Became the 265th pope, with the pontifical name of Benedict XVI, reigning from 19 April 2005 until 28 February 2013, when he resigned. After his resignation, he became Pope emeritus, the sole holder of the title to date.

Died on 31 December 2022 in Rome, Vatican City.
Brother of Georg Ratzinger.
