Fog Lake

Effective period / Period of releases: 2012 - 2021

Fog Lake is the musical alias of Newfoundland, Canada artist Aaron Powell.

Originally conceived as an ambient project, it eventually morphed into dark, nostalgic lo-fi rock and indie pop, a blend which Powell has self-described as downer pop. Powell’s first release under the Fog Lake moniker was 2012’s "There’s A Spirit, There’s A Soul," a compilation of ambient/drone recordings made during high school (which is when he first began working on music). After developing the project further, the first proper Fog Lake album, "Farther Reaches," was released in January 2013. The "Holy Cross" EP was also released a few months later that same year, and received a cassette release through Birdtapes.

In February 2014, he released his second album "Virgo Indigo" through Orchid Tapes, which marked the first time a full-length album of his was released by a label. They also released his next two records, "Victoria Park" (2015) and "Dragonchaser" (2017) respectively. The fifth Fog Lake album, "Captain" was released in July 2018, this time via Stack Your Roster on cassette and Dog Knights Productions on vinyl. His sixth album, "Tragedy Reel," was released in April 2021, through Orchid Tapes once again.
