Aural Exciters was a project by the No Wave and Mutant disco producer Bob Blank and August Darnell, who was one of the main composers. Aural Exciters released one album on ZE Records with vocals by NY Downtown scene stars likes of Lizzy Mercier Descloux, Andy Hernandez (Coati Mundi) and Taana Gardner, and Walter Steding on violin. Later some Aural Exciters material written by Darnell emerged on the Kid Creole's albums.

The Aural Exciter was an important electronic audio-enhancing device used in sound studios starting in the mid-70's.
