First known as the Harlem Dictators, orchestra founded by Floyd Ray in the mid-30's. Don't confuse with the Savoy Dictators. They were recruited by Decca when Count Basie left for Columbia in February 1939. They recorded during two sessions of 4 songs each (8 songs in total), in February and April 1939. These are apparently the only traces we have left from the orchestra, except for a record on the label Miltone Records, pressed in Los Angeles, in 1947.
