Ilê Aiyê is considered the first Brazilian Afro-Bloco.
Formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1974, it's composed by black percussionists, singers and dancers in response to the historic segregation of blacks in the Bahia Carnival. They fight against the racism through the art, culture and education. Its musicality combines Brazilian rhythms with African tradition creating a samba-afro style that helped the propagation of a re-Africanization of the Bahia Carnival.
