The R. Carlos Nakai Quartet

Effective period / Period of releases: 1996

Members: R. Carlos Nakai, Will Clipman, J. David Muñiz, Mary Redhouse, Amo Chip

When Jackalope co-founder Larry M. Yañez left the group, the three remaining members, joined by Amo Chip Dabney, formed the R. Carlos Nakai Quartet. The group initially blended Native American music with jazz, salsa and afro-Cuban rhythms. After their first album, Kokopelli's Cafe, J. David Muñiz left the group and was replaced by Mary Redhouse, giving the quartet a stable lineup and a stronger focus on their Native American roots. The group termed their music "global native fusion". Their fourth album, "People Of Peace" (2004) received a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Age Album.
