Jean Gabin Fanovona founded the Vaovy group in 1974, borrowing the name from a wood endemic to Madagascar. “Salakao”, one of his creations, behind which lies the destiny of an exceptional man and a great artist, has almost become the anthem of a region. He held conferences in prestigious universities around the world, and he was a tireless researcher on traditional Malagasy music. He was immersed in gospel and liturgical chants, although he came from a region where music is a second skin. It's time to look back on his journey through his songs that also reveals his way of seeing and embracing society. He passed away on March 7, 2010.
