Stu Page
Born on the 12 May 1954 in Leeds, Yorkshire. He has been playing the guitar since he was 10 years old, began his career with session work around Leeds. In 1973, after helping out an American bluegrass outfit, the Warren Wikeson Band, he was invited to join them in Boston for a year. When he returned to the UK, he took various day jobs, but played in several semi-pro bands. In 1984 he formed Stu Page & Remuda, and says, ‘It’s a word for a spare horse and that’s what we were. We only got the gigs when someone had let the organizer down.’ Besides being a talented guitarist, Page has a powerful voice that belies his small stature, and his band includes Terry Clayton (bass), Andy Whelan (guitar), Pat McPartling (drums) and Tim Howard (pedal steel). They have recorded several cassettes for sale at shows, together with the excellent album The Stu Page Band, which was produced by Joe Butler of the Hillsiders for Barge Records.
