Originally from Prishtina, Kosova, Besart relocated to Sweden in 1991 and later emigrated to Canada in 1994. Almost entirely self taught from childhood, Besart developed the view that music, mostly improvised and inspired by immediate circumstances, is the most authentic representation of himself. Affinity at an early age for ambient music and musique concrete, drew him to the pioneers of such music. Besart is also influenced by modern electronic and experimental music and is motivated by the freedom to use whatever means are available at the time of inspiration. Besart has produced music for radio, theatre and television documentaries in both Sweden and Canada and has been inspired by the recent War in the Balkans to compose music for his first solo CD, Kosova (to be released in Spring, 2001).
