Biography

Rev. Jim Beal
African-American preacher, who recorded for Brunswick in 1929.
"The Vocalion file note by Jack Kapp on this artist reads: 'Jim Beal hails from Coldwater, Miss., and is a Baptist preacher. He came to Chicago to see some relatives and was discovered while preaching on a street in Chicago. He is an unadulterated Southern preacher who has the primitive Negro expression. I think he is a find and will be a big record seller.'" (Blues and gospel records 1890-1943 (1997), p. 46)
