In 1979 Larry signed with American Recording Company (ARC), which is managed by Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire. He started recording his solo debut album in 1980.
He was already a well-known songwriter who wrote songs for artists such as Chaka Kahn, Average White Band, Teri Desario etc. He worked extensively with Jon Lind.
