With an incredible range and capable of stunning vocal acrobatics, Gene Toone (or Eugene Toon) should have been a huge star. Instead he bounced between a variety of labels, including Chumley and Simco (for which he cut the Deep Soul stunner “A Love Triangle”), leaving us an undeservedly small legacy of a few 45s and one Gospel LP (for the Locus label). He also paused briefly at Wand.
