American jazz tenorsaxophonist (b. January 19, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan - d. September 16, 1993 in Utica, New York).

J.R. Monterose (not to be confused with tenorsaxophonist Jack Montrose), worked with Buddy Rich (1952), Claude Thornhill, Teddy Charles, Jon Eardley, Charles Mingus (1956 on "Pithecanthropus Erectus") and Kenny Dorham, among others.
