The Daps were a vocal group formed at Central High School in Kalamazoo, Michigan, featuring Charles Clark, Albert "Jim" Pierson, Earl Jones, Willie Walker, Floyd Smith, and Henry Dungey. In 1956, they were signed to Chicago's Chess Records. The group recorded several songs, with two released on Chess's sub-label, Marterry (which later became Argo Records), and an unreleased track titled "Love Your Lovin' Ways," which was eventually released on a Chess box set.
Their song "When You’re Alone" achieved moderate success, earning them a performance slot with Fats Domino and others at W.K. Kellogg’s on November 26, 1956. This was their only advertised performance, though they likely performed at other events.
Charles Clark now works at a radio station in Kalamazoo, and Floyd Smith is still living. Albert Pierson passed away in 2022.
