Subway To Sally is a folk metal band from Potsdam (Germany), founded in 1990. The band usually refers to 1992 as the actual founding year, due to major changes in the lineup and musical style within the first two years of existence.
Starting as a pure folk rock group, their music developed from rock towards metal by the late 90s, and the lyrics changed from mostly English to almost exclusively German, rarely also Latin. Since the 2000s the style became more versatile and experimental, with influences of gothic metal, industrial, and lately even dubstep and trap. Known for the implementation of historical instruments into their music, such as lute or hurdy gurdy, they are often regarded as pioneers of the medieval rock/metal genre in Germany, despite the band itself clearly rejects the term "medieval".
