Hurby Luv Bug

Real name: Herby E. Azor

Effective period / Period of releases: 1985

Haitian musician and hip-hop music producer best known for discovering the successful female hip–hop trio Salt 'N' Pepa and the hip-hop duo Kid 'N' Play, who together with Sweet Tee, Dana Dane, Kwamé and Antoinette were known as the Idol Makers Crew. The main focus of the crew was to push a more commercial lighthearted style of Hip Hop that had the potential to crossover into the mainstream pop charts. Hurby came up with the name Salt-n-Pepa from Prince Whipper Whip and Dota Rock of The Fantastic Five who called themselves 'The Salt And Pepper M.C.’s.' and when they checked their mics they said 'My Mic Sounds Nice.' Salt 'N' Pepa were first known as Super Nature, Hurby say's “I liked a song by Cerrone called 'Super Nature' and what it was talking about was something more than regular nature – it was Super Nature, so I felt that we were gonna be big and beyond regular so I gave them that name originally.”
