They were the first years of the second half of the 20th century when Toño Barcelata's enthusiasm began to forge what would eventually become one of the best and longest-lived tropical groups in our country, La Sonora Veracruz.
Immediately begin to perform their first rehearsals, the initial alignment of the emerging group was formed by Toño and Ramón Barcelata as first and second trumpet respectively, Rodrigo Barcelata on guitar and second voice, Jorge Kerber in the tresillo, Chucho Mora in the bongo and finally the voice and percussion of Pepe Vallejo.
It would be until 1960 when they made their first recording, their next works by Orfeón would help define a style of the Barcelata family as a whole, however, the popularity they had gained coupled with the success they had achieved throughout their musical career, decide to change the course of the group, some elements choose to abandon the concept of Sonora Veracruz itself that is taken up by the vocalist Pepe Vallejo.
Miguel Ángel González, better known as "La Gallega", Arturo Vicario, Alejandro Chávez, and pianist José Luis Martínez, who had already collaborated with the group as trumpeter in some of the previous recordings, would join this new stage.
Finally, the perseverance and faith of its members that remained paid off, once the new lineup was ready, they made their first tour of Mexico City, conquering and immediately becoming the darlings of the capital's public.
From that moment, the career of the Sonora Veracruz would be on the rise, adding to its career an important number of presentations inside and outside the country. With more than 40 record materials to his credit and an impressive curriculum in which his works stand out with great artists such as: Bienvenido Granda, Celio Gonzalez, Daniel Santos, Rolando LaSerie or Welfo.
