Göran "Freddy" Fredriksson

Swedish folk musician playing bouzouki, zither, mandolin, guitar, lyre, violin, bagpipe, flute and songwriter, born in 1956 in Askersund.

He has been playing Swedish and Irish folk music on the bouzouki since 1983.

He played electric guitar in various amateur bands in the 70s. During the 80s, interest in folk music and acoustic instruments took over. Initially played: mandolin, violin and octave mandola, all in the normal fifth tuning (G D A E). In 1983, he met Anders Norudde who, among other things, played Swedish bagpipes and violin. The following year they formed the group Blå Bergens Borduner, which also included Ulf Karlsson on violin and bagpipes and later also Stefan Ekedahl on cello, flute and bagpipes. From 1984, Freddy played mostly Irish-type flat-bottomed bouzouki, with the tuning (ADAD) or (GDAD). He has later switched more and more to playing a 5-chord zither, with the mood (DADAD). Influences from Irish folk music are clearly noticeable in Freddy's playing.

Freddy played from 1990 and a few years later with the French/Swedish group Svart Kaffe together with Jean Pierre Yvert, Maria Jonsson, Stefan Ekedahl and later Bill McChesney.

He now plays with Pehr Falkenström and David Bastviken in the group Ådra. He sometimes also collaborates with Anders Norudde and appears on his CD Kan sjalv 2000 and Med hull och hår 2003. Freddy has also played some with Christy O'Leary and Bert Deivert.
