Curtis Griffin

Real name: Curtis Jack Griffin

Effective period / Period of releases: 1964 - 1966

Curtis "Jack" Griffin is from Louisiana, born March 17, 1930 in a little town called Poole, fifty five miles east of Shreveport. He had a number of 45's issued in the early and mid sixties, on Joyce, Allegro, Movin' and Stan Lewis' Jewel label. Curtis was influenced by Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Lightnin' Hopkins and Smokey Hogg before he fell under the spell of B.B. King and Bobby Bland. He switched from drums to learn the guitar in the early 50's and after coming out of the army he earned a living as a boxer, would be actor and also in the "meat business", a family tradition. He has opened shows for B.B. King and Bobby Bland and also provided support for Lowell Fulson and countless other touring bluesmen.
