Real name: Carl Bernard Tipton

Bluegrass fiddle, banjo, and mandolin player, songwriter and pioneer bluegrass showman. Married to singer and songwriter Sophie Tipton.
Born January 18, 1923 in Gale City, Virginia. Died September 10, 1989 Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Carl was a fixture on the Middle Tennessee music scene for more than 40 years and best known for his long-running early morning TV show which aired for 25 years over WHTN (Channel 39), Murfreesboro, Tennessee. His uncle Jimmy taught him to play guitar and mandolin. He was a musician of gospel and bluegrass music that spanned an active 50-year career. The Tiptons were a musical family, and he often sat at the entrance of his dad’s truck stop playing music as customers drew near. He married Sophie in 1949. Great uncle of Mickey Harris.
