American singer known mainly for his pop hit "Hey! Baby" which reached no. 1 on the US charts and No. 2 in the UK in 1962.Born November 28, 1940 in Jacksonville, Texas, U.S.A.
Channel had 5 other charted songs in the U.S. in th 1960's, but none that rose into the top 50. He should be better remembered for his songwriting, as he charted twenty-two times 1962-2003; ten of those were "Hey! Baby", the song charting every century at least once between 1960-2002 except for the 1990's, including for the first itme hitting #1 in the U.K. in 2001 by DJ Ötzi. Channel has had three #1 country songs as songwriter--first with "Party Time" by T. G. Sheppard, 1981; "Don't Worry 'Bout Me Baby" by Janie Fricke in 1982 (co-written by Deborah Allen & Kieran Kane); and finally "As Long As I'm Rockin' with You" by John Conlee in 1984 (co-written by Kieran Kane).
