Floris

Real name: Floris Klinkert

Effective period / Period of releases: 1998 - 2004

Floris urge to make music is partly due to his childhood; his home was always filled with different styles of music and this is where he learned playing various instruments. As a teenager he released a couple of house tracks that were received enthusiastically by the club circuit. In 1996 he even scored a massive hit as 'Groove Solution' in the German Top 100.

This success made it possible for him to experiment with more obscure samples, beats and sphere. These experiments result in his first 12" - 'Mastermind EP'- which he released as 'Floris' on the 'After Midnight' label in 1997. With this new sound he worked for three years on his debut.

Floris' main love was never really house music; he listened more to artists like Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, Marvin Gaye and Jeff Buckley, and also Massive Attack, Radiohead and Björk. This you can hear on his debut album 'Floris': warm jazzy samples combined with experimental drums and vocals filled up with funky and poppy tracks and surprising interludes. Floris puts - like no one else - old crackly piano samples together with analogous synthesizers and live instruments, creating his own sound.

May 2005 sees the release of his eagerly awaited second album 'Drunk on life', which without doubt will give him more admirers worldwide.
