Biography
Cobla Contemporània
Translated from the band's internet site: "In 1995, excited and eager to make new and different contributions, we created the cobla*) Contemporània. During this time, the Contemporània has developed a totally innovative way of making music (...). The live performances are characterised by the approach of a very diverse and heterogeneous public, from the children who are afraid of confetti, mothers and fathers, sardana lovers, the curious... Without a doubt, the Contemporània's "Sardaxou" leaves no one indifferent. "Sardaxou" is to make the sardana a party.
Members and collaborators of the Contemporània take the best-known musical scores, arrange them to the rhythm and tempo characteristic of the sardana and perform them with the most unique instruments in the country."
For example, there are Sardana-versions of well-known film music or the Radetzky March.
*) A cobla is a Sardanes orchestra, consisting of 11 people with 10 wind instruments and one bass. Since the 1980s female musicians are also allowed in the coblas.
Sardana (pl. Sardanes) is a Catalan musical genre typical of Catalan culture and danced in circle.
