Anima is the name of the project conceived by the Lecce (southern Italy's city) musician Gianfranco Salvatore. The aim is to spread the popular musical culture of Salento, namely the "pizzica-pizzica" and the "taranta", manipulating traditional rhythms and melodies, transforming them into ethno-pop, ethno-jazz and ethno-rock scores. The legend of the "pizzica-pizzica" tells of a spider, the tarantula, which by biting women and men to the genitals, sent them into a state of trance, dragging them into a wild and unstoppable dance, mystical and sensual.
