British-based vocal group that evolved from The Velours from New York, NY, United States
Members were
Jerome "Romeo" Ramos (tenor vocals, 1968-76), John Cheatdom (first tenor vocals, 1968-76), Donald Haywoode (second tenor vocals, 1968-?), Richard Pitts (tenor vocals, 1968-72), A.D. Beal (tenor vocals, 1972-76), Jimmy Hamilton (tenor vocals, 1976), Jimmy Cherry, Mel Nixon, Tiny Davis, J.D. Nicholas, Elvin Hayes, Emma St. John
The group started life as The Velours before changing name and moving to the UK in 1968. Taking advantage of the British Soul explosion, they toured northern clubs as "The Fantastic Temptations" performing the hits of the US original "The Temptations" until having to drop the "Temptations" reference in band name.
