Blue And White Marimba Band

Effective period / Period of releases: 1916 - 1921

Guatemalan marimba band.

The Blue and White Marimba Band (a.k.a. Marimba Azul y Blanco) of Guatemala was named after Guatemala's national flag, which is called Azul y Blanco (the "Blue and White").

Riding on the coattails of the Hurtado Brothers Royal Marimba Band at the 1915 International Panama-Pacific Exhibition in San Francisco, which started a marimba craze in the United States, the Blue and White Marimba Band of Guatemala successfully played New York City’s Hippodrome in 1916 and subsequently made dozens of recordings for Victor and Columbia between 1916 and 1921. Managed by R. N. Mata in New York City, they are credited as "Mata's Blue and White Marimba Band" on OKeh 1190.
