American bassist, born July 14, 1964. John Maurer was the bassist for punk rock band Social Distortion between 1984 and 2004. Just a month before the Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll album was released, Maurer left Social Distortion in August 2004 to stay home and devote time to his wife and two children. He was briefly replaced by Rancid's Matt Freeman, then current bassist Brent Harding.

He also was the bass player in Foxy (12). He left the band before their first album was released, but plays bass on some tracks. In 2013, he joined a new lineup of roots rock/punk band Hellbound Hayride.
