John Bayley was born and reared in Guyana in the West Indies. In 1976 he released the album "Minstrel of the Morning," that was recorded on his label at Cavern Studios in Independence, Missouri. Bayley wrote, arranged and directed the material.

Bayley traveled to America not as a musician, but as an evangelist with the Methodist Church. He left Guyana when he was 20 years old and was offered an academic scholarship by a bishop in New York soon after arrival. Pursuing his music took him through the South to places such as Tulsa adn Little Rock for one nighters and weekends and eventually to Kansas City, Missouri where he called home for many years.
