Joe Wilbur

Effective period / Period of releases: 1927 - 1928

Joe Wilbur (tenor vocalist, musician (banjo/guitar) & bandleader) had come to England in 1913 with the Revue ‘Gee Whizz’ which was produced at the Palace. In April, 1914, he had
joined Bill Blanche, Dave Comer & Harry Robbins to form Murray’s Savoy Quartet (previously known as Will Blanche’s Trio). This group performed at the Savoy Hotel, London from 1915 to 1920 and recorded extensively (mostly under the name Savoy Quartet). Wilbur went on to record with the Savoy Dance Orchestra (1920) and his own group, Joe Wilbur's Hawaiian Duo (1923). Some time in the mid-1920s he returned to the U.S. and began recording as a vocalist (both solo vocals and as a dance band vocalist with various bands including Joe Candullo, Willard Robison & Lou Gold) during 1926-1930.
