Erich Schmid

Swiss composer and conductor born on January 1, 1907, in Balsthal (canton Solothurn) and died on December 17, 2000, in Zurich. in 1927 he attended the ‘Hoch'sche Konservatorium’ in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, where he studied composition, music theory, piano and conducting. After a period in Frankfurt and Berlin, including studies under Arnold Schoenberg, he returned to Switzerland in 1933. Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich chief conductor 1949 to 1957.
