Real name: James A. Pope
American jazz and rhythm & blues trumpet player, vocalist, and songwriter.Born November 23, 1916 in Bessamer, Alabama, moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1943 and led two swing-style combos, switched to playing rhythm and blues in 1947. Recorded for the labels Paradise, King Records, and Savoy Records. Died September 24, 1983 in Lynn, Massachusetts.
