Rumanastone

Members: Ash Hansen

Rumanastone started out in 1997 with high hopes and the talent to achieve anything they wish for. Ash Hansen, Sam Spanswick, Jamie Wood and Tony Sassin made up the then four-piece, trying to gain exposure by performing in gig slots and creating a promising demo. With Infinite Cradle, a somewhat raw 5 track demo, completed and distributed, deserved good fortune shone down on them as Mushroom Records snapped them up and they were ready to hit the record studios.

The band took their time to create a slick, clean 5 track debut release, Sweet, a 5 track EP released in 1999 with the title track given good airplay and a magnificent filmclip. The future was looking very promising for the band as they were known nation-wide and had the armour to produce some of the most catchiest and powerful rock ballads that's only been surpassed by very few.

With a steadily growing popularity, the band turned down the distortion and raised the elegance to colossal proportions to produce their finest work yet in The Sound EP. The single was without a doubt a stroke of music genius with the gorgeous ballad being an instant radio hit and adored by many. Much credit goes to producer extraordinaire, Tim Whitten. Unfortunately, before the EP's 2000 release Jamie Wood parted ways and Rumanastone decided to carry on as a three-piece.
After many shows on the road, namely with bands such as Live, Muse, Feeder and Travis, the band re-released The Sound as a CD single, with Sweet and a live version of My Icon as the b-sides. Early 2001 saw the second departure, with Tony Sassin leaving and paving way for Jimi Swan, a local Sydney radio DJ and drummer for Marvin to take up the sticks for Rumanastone..
During their quiet late-2000 to late-2002 period, the band have been able to take their time to write and record their latest album, By Design. During the lengthy process, the band parted ways with Mushroom Records and signed up with the new label, Chatterbox Records.

Frontman Ash Hansen died of virulent melanoma in October 2014, aged 39.
