Brother of jazz trumpeters Jack Cathcart and Jimmy Cathcart.
Married to singer Peggy Lennon of The Lennon Sisters (1964-1993, his death).
In early 1957, he joined the group The Modernaires as a singer, replacing Alan Copeland, including a stint on Bob Crosby's daytime TV show. He sang with them for over three years.
