Walter Leschetitzky

Austrian Violinist, Conductor, and Composer (b. December 15, 1909 in Biglie near Görz/Istrien [Gorizia/I], d. April 26, 1989 in Salzburg, Austria)

Trained in Vienna, Leschetitzky worked as a classical violinist, but from the mid-1930s he turned to popular dance music. From 1938, he led his own orchestra. Between 1941–45 he was a member of the Deutsches Tanz- und Unterhaltungsorchester. He also performed as part of Charlie & His Orchestra a.k.a. the Lutz Templin Band on propaganda shows of the German radio directed at Allied soldiers. After the war, he worked for several German and Austrian radio stations. From1962–75, he played with the Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg.
