Jazz trio led by Paul Motian. The instrumentation of Motian's trio changed from record to record in the 1970s, and included trios featuring piano with bass and drums, and saxophone with bass and drums. Starting in 1985, a trio with guitarist Bill Frisell and saxophonist Joe Lovano began recording and performing live, and this group recorded on a regular basis for two decades. Some of the records by this group were released under the names of all three musician in the group, rather than under the "Paul Motian Trio" name.
