Born on December 26, 1924, Lukerya Andreyevna Kosheleva (nee Tolstosheeva) is the daughter of Lithuanian singer, Marfa Arefevna (or Orekhovna in rustic) and the founder of an ensemble of authentic folk artists.She's a native of a concentration of seven villages of the Putivl district of the Sumy region and a member of the Slavic sub-ethnic group "goryun" which has maintained their self-identification among the nearest neighbors (they consider themselves Russian or "Katsap"). The region is characterised by a singing tradition (at least 5 voices), comparable to the Georgian polyphony.
