Michael Byron Free Music

Michael Byron

American composer and editor of contemporary music anthologies.
Byron was born in Chicago in 1953 and grew up in Los Angeles, California, where he studied trumpet and began composing at age 16. In 1971, he became a pupil of James Tenney, and Richard Teitelbaum, studying at CalArts.
In 1973, he moved to Ontario, Canada, where he co-founded performance art group Maple Sugar and taught at York University. In the late 1970s, he moved to New York City. where his chamber piece Tidal premiered in 1980. He continues to live in New York City and compose avant-garde music.
