ZEN is a Portuguese alternative rock group from Porto, a fusion of hard rock and funk, formed around 1996 by Rui "Gon" Silva (former No Creative Solution) on vocals, Jorge Coelho (former Cosmic City Blues) on guitar, Miguel Barros (former No Creative Solution) on bass and André Hollanda on drums. They released EP in 1997. The following year they released their first album "The Privilege Of Making The Wrong Choice", it was well received by both the media and public, with the single U.N.L.O. being later elected by the readers of Blitz as one of their favourite songs of the decade by Portuguese groups. In 2000 they released the live recording "Hard Club, 7 De Dezembro De 1999". Soon after Jorge Coelho leaves the band and is replaced by Deus Loura. In october 2002 Rui Silva leaves the band and João Fino steps in. With new members the group released their second and last studio album "Rules, Jewels, Fools", issued in 2004, the group disbands the following year.In 2011 three of the original band members, Gon, Miguel and André, reunited for a few live dates, it featured Marco Nunes on guitar. In 2022 the band becomes active again and it is playing live again with a new guitar player Miguel Martins.
