Steve Hunter, born June 14, 1948 in Decatur, Illinois is an American guitarist, primarily a session player.

He first played with Mitch Ryder's Detroit, beginning a long association with record producer Bob Ezrin. He is arguably best known for his contributions to Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed and Alice Cooper. His extensive discography includes the opening solos on Aerosmith's version of ‘Train Kept A Rollin’, Alice Cooper's ‘Cold Ethyl, Lou Reed's 'Intro To Sweet Jane’ and the acoustic guitars on Peter Gabriel’s ‘Solsbury Hill’.​
