Morris began his performing career at the age of 12 as a soloist with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra, in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was born. He was a scholarship student with Nadia Boulanger and with Robert and Jean Casadesus, and a Fulbright Scholar at the Academy for Music in Vienna. He appeared as a soloist in Carnegie Hall, Town Hall and Alice Tully Hall. He was one-half od the organ-trumpet duo "Toccatas and Flourishes" with Martin Berinbaum.
