Michel Darma
Real name: Michel Darma
Born around 1949 in Yaoundé, Cameroon, Centrafrican artist and musician Michel Darma, a.k.a. 'Dr. Wech' did his primary education at the Regional School of Yaounde. He made the secondary studies at college Burt, also in Cameroon. He arrived in Bangui in 1963 and joined the public service as a collection agent to recover, inspection and registration, with a degree of GCSE that he got in the Cameroonian capital. Dr Wech also made the obligatory military service of the Central African army in 1969, during the reign of former President Jean Bedel Bokassa of the Central African.Dr. Wech began his artistic career in 1960 in the orchestra Sonorità Jazz in Cameroon. After his return home in 1963, he joined the Centrafrican Jazz which led by Prosper Mayélé. In 1976, he created his own band, Orchestra Ngombéka before joining fellow musicians Evoko and Elvis in 1982 to create the Orchestra Sélection Centrale. in 1985, Dr. Wech will integrate the group Aimer Jazz International, a musical group created by a well known sponsor known by the nickname Matalaki. It was finally in 1990 that he will revive the Orchestre Centrafrican-Jazz at a recording at Studio Vitamin.
